Did you know that during the Regency era, people believed in ghosts, omens, and the power of dreams? While Halloween wasn’t celebrated quite as it is today with Trick or Treating and candy, All Hallows’ Eve still carried a sense of mystery and superstition.

Regency folks told ghost stories by candlelight, avoided walking past graveyards at night, and tried to interpret dreams. They also played games, wore costumes to scare off evil spirits, and left out food and candles for their deceased loved ones.

Another popular custom involved carving scary faces into gourds and putting a lit candle inside—the predecessors to our modern-day Jack O’ Lanterns. These eerie traditions create the perfect setting for my paranormal romance, A Ghost of a Chance.

Oddly enough, this story came to me in the form of a dream–at least, the first few chapters did. I had to create the rest.

And just in time for Halloween, it’s on sale for only $0.99 this week ONLY as part of a Kindle Countdown Deal!
